2018 Le Forme dell’Olio Contest: Awards

Winners of the different categories of the fifth edition of the olive oil packaging and visual design contest have been decreed. Among categories appear “gift packaging”, “retail oils” and, for the very first time, “travel oils”. Beauty and functionality have played the lion’s share, leading to a number of special awards and commendations. Overall, the quality of containers has significantly grown. Even ways to present and tell the story of oil and of companies have remarkably improved. The Le Forme dell’Olio Award aims at paying tribute and awarding the most innovative and bravest companies

The results of the fifth edition of 2018 Le Forme dell’Olio contest offer a rather flattering overall picture.

Oil producing companies are significantly investing in packaging and visual design. They no longer focus and work only on the content quality, offering good extra virgin olive oils.
Many are gradually finding out that it is important and necessary to appropriately dress the product, its wrapping, the label presenting the oil, as well as to focus on the type, functionality and ergonomics of containers and packages.

This means total quality: one should go beyond rich aromas, fresh and good flavours and nice tactile and kinaesthetic sensations felt when oil meets the palate and other food.

Investments are needed to improve, refine and make packaging more attractive. Indeed, not only what is visible is sold, not only the substance and quality of the content. The distinguishing factor of each extra virgin olive oil must be communicated appropriately: this process must indeed involve designers, and not only oil producers, selectors, packers and retailers.

The Le Forme dell’Olio Award will have its celebratory moment on Friday, 2nd February 2018, during Olio Officina Festival, when awards and certificates will be delivered.

The Jury, headed by designer Gianni Pasini, laureate of the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) award, included: Luigi Caricato, director and creator of the Le Forme dell’Olio contest; Gianluca De Leo, graphic designer; Francesco Di Donato, event manager; Beatrice Forner, architect and designer; Marisa Fumagalli, journalist of Italian daily newspaper Il Corriere della Sera; Gianfranco Maggio, photographer and artist; Mauro Olivieri, designer; Paola Pagani, journalist of Italian magazine Imbottigliamento; Ornella Piluso, artist; Daniele Tirelli, professor at Milan IULM University and president of Retail Institute Italy; Chiara Tomasi, Arconvert marketing manager.

Ravioli with Garda extra virgin olive oil stuffing and black olive charcoals

Extra Virgin Garda DOP olive oil’s distinctive traits are its naturally delicate flavor and its elegance. At the taste it can be recognized for harmony or its organoleptic notes and for the light and balanced aromas: the scents of fresh grass, aromatic herbs, hay and artichoke, together with the typical almond aftertaste, make it unique.
